 第⼀章 | Chapter 1 原⽂ | Original Text 

道可道，⾮常道；名可名，⾮常名。 無名，天地之始；有名，萬物之⺟。 故常無欲，以觀其妙；常有欲，以觀其徼。 此兩者，同出⽽異名，同謂之⽞。 ⽞之⼜⽞，眾妙之⾨。

可以⽤⾔語表達的「道」，就不是永恆不變的「道」；可以⽤⽂字定義的「名」，就不是永恆不 變的「名」。 「無」是天地的開端；「有」是萬物的⺟源。 所以，常⽤「無欲」的狀態，去觀察「道」微妙的本體；常⽤「有欲」的狀態，去觀察「道」顯 現的表象。 這兩者來源相同但名稱不同，都可以說是深遠奧妙。 深奧⽽⼜深奧，是進⼊⼀切⽞妙變化的⼊⾨。

The Dao that can be told is not the eternal Dao; The name that can be named is not the eternal Name. The Unnamable is the beginning of Heaven and Earth; The Namable is the mother of all things. Therefore, ever desireless, one can see the mystery; Ever desiring, one can see the manifestations. These two spring from the same source but differ in name; This unity is called the deep Mystery. Mystery within mystery, the entry point to all wonders.
